WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT EUS DATA AND OPEN ACCESS POLICY

Curious about the novelties in Horizon 2020 with regards to Open Access? Did you know that all H2020 projects are obliged to make their publications Open Access and that there is an Open Research Data Pilot? To shed some light on how to comply with the Open Access mandate and the Open Data Pilot, you are invited to our workshop on November 18th in Ghent, Belgium.

All projects receiving Horizon 2020 funding will have the obligation to make sure any peer reviewed journal article they publish is openly accessible, free of charge.

As a major funder, through Horizon2020, the EU has been at the forefront of implementing Open Access policies. Following the Open Access pilot in FP7, Horizon2020 brings a strong mandate for Open Access to publications as well as an Open Data Pilot for certain areas of research.

The pilot encourages researchers to deposit research data in data repositories to make them accessible and usable to others.

Many questions arise from this policy: how to implement the requirements, where to publish, and what about confidentiality and privacy issues? Issues of priority and planning; what should be taken care of at proposal state, during the project and after the project ends?

This workshop aims to provide answers to these questions. And also provide an arena to exchange experiences, define problems and possible solutions. The target audience is NCP’s, research administrators and project coordinators. Tools will be presented to facilitate data management and experiences will be exchanged to provide hands-on solutions.

The morning plenary session will be devoted to Open Science in Horizon2020. After an introduction by the EC, the benefits of Open Science will be presented by Lennart Martens. The Open Access mandate and the Open Data Pilot will be clarified with examples of how OpenAIRE services can be of help.

The afternoon session will consist of interactive parallel workshops, taking a closer look at the practical implications of the Open Access mandate and the Open Data Pilot.

One track will discuss the mandate; how it affects projects, researchers and how OpenAIRE can be of assistance. A different group will discuss the Open Data Pilot, with a presentation of research data management (RDM) tools.
There will be time for discussion and questions, as your input is important for the success of the project.

Project Coordinators: Information to aid in writing project proposals
How to meet Open Access and Open Research Data Pilot obligations during the project
Ideas for future support materials
